What the certification is
FB-4 is Landstar’s flatbed capacity classification for oversize and over-dimensional freight. It isn’t handed out for showing up. It means the operator has demonstrated the equipment, the securement knowledge, and the track record to move loads that exceed legal width, height, or length — the loads that need state permits, sometimes escorts, and always a driver who has done it before.
What it buys you
- Permits handled right. Over-dimensional freight moves on state permits with specific routes, travel times, and restrictions. FB-4 means those get pulled and followed — not improvised at the scale house.
- Legal securement. Wide and tall loads shift the rules on chains, straps, and signage. Certification means the load is secured to DOT spec for its actual dimensions, not a standard-flatbed guess.
